Melanie C was on television show CD:UK(UK) on June 23rd and said the following about the latest British girl band "Girl Thing":
"I think it's a bit sad that their management and record company have just tried to rip off the Spice Girls. I fear for them because management and record companies are evil."
One of the group's singers, Michelle Barber, replied:
"We are getting compared to the Spice Girls quite a lot, but at the end of the day we are not them. Yes, we are five girls who have individual personalities, but that's it. We are not trying to be the Spice Girls, it's our record company who are touting us as their successors."
Melanie C pulled out of singing before the England vs Romania Euro 2000 soccer match in Charleroi. The reason is because of equipment problems. Her spokesman Alan Edwards said:
"She made the decision yesterday because of problems getting all the band's equipment into the stadium."

The Spice Girls will premiere "Let Love Lead The Way", the first single off their third album, on CD:UK(UK) on July 22nd!
The video is already playing in some parts of the world. They report Melanie C is wearing hair extensions. Scenes include the beach, rumoured to be Ibiza, and a club (makes sense if it's Ibiza).
England play Romania on Tuesday 20th June and Melanie will be there doing her thing. Her performance of the new single "I Turn to You" will be televised to countless millions all over the world. Should provide some inspiration to the England players who can not afford to lose the game !
Jason Brown, Mel's beau talks about Melanie and rumours of a press related relationship. Tabloids report that the two are dating for promo reasons.
"These stories really piss me off. We've been seeing each other for three months and it is completely real. Our relationship is not a PR stunt. I would never do anything like that, what's the point? Mel C is my girlfriend. I can tell you she stayed round at my flat last night, and that wasn't a publicity stunt. We had something to eat and watched TV for most of the night. We're both northern and we both have a great sense of humor. When we're alone, she's not Mel C from the Spice Girls, she's just Melanie. She's on the same level as me. I can talk to her about anything. We are just like an ordinary couple. I know we're in the public eye, but that doesn't matter. We're just J and Mel, and that's it. We go out to eat, have a few beers and do things like that when we get the chance. Unfortunately, we don't get to see each other that often, but we try to get some time together. When we do it's great. We have a laugh. People keep saying it's a scam because we were never photographed together. The reason was because we never went out. We'd rather stay in than go out
all the time. But when we did go out publicly for the first time, at Madonna's premiere for her movie The Next Best Thing, people were still going on about it being a stunt. It just fucking pisses me off. We're just enjoying ourselves. We've only been dating for three months, so it's all very early days. All I'm saying is we're a couple, and in the past I haven't really wanted to talk about it. I just want to set the record straight."
In a recent worldpop.com interview Melanie confessed wishes to work with Tina Turner.
"I'd love to do a single with Tina. She's got such a powerful voice and I think she'd be an amazing, inspiring person
to work with. My second solo album is still at the very early planning stages cos I've been really busy helping to put the finishing touches to the new Spice album, but that's very nearly finished now and I can't wait to get going on all the ideas buzzing around my head."

Jason Brown, alleged boyfriend of Sporty Spice Melanie C was on Channel 4's Jo Whiley Show(UK) last night. He tried to explain the rumor laced situation between him and Mel C. J said:
"I can't say that I am not seeing Mel and I can't say that I am seeing her. I just want some time for myself. We are really good friends but I have just come out of seeing someone else on and off. I put my hands up and admit I put out a few wrong signals, for a while I steamed in there and it was full-on. But now I've pulled back a little bit, I'm not really ready for anything major yet. It's a bit of a weird situation. It's like we're friends but we keep drifting into different areas."

Mel C: There's quite a few fans actually that we know here in England by name, and when I go around the world I recognize faces.
Girlfriends: Are you aware that you wind up in some of the queer rumors that happen in the queer community? The raunchy dancing, pinching your bandmates' butts, the dual interpretation that people make of NBTSA. People go as far as to read the pronouns of your songs and say, "She didn't say *him*, she said *they* or *them*. You set off some people's gaydar.
Mel C: That is something that I'm not really aware of. I'm just expressing myself in the only way I know how. I've never used my music to wind anybody up. It's just an expression of me.
Girlfriends: In 25 years do you think it's possible that someone who was once a Spice Girl will come out?
Mel C: As far as I know all the Spice Girls are straight. Two are married or have been married, with babies, and it's something that we have often talked about because we all are friends. Some members of the band have had certain experiences or whatever.. But you know, I'm not really one of those people.
