Eleven tracks and each a potential single, highlights include Oxygen, the best ballad the Spices have ever written, and Tell Me Why, a cutting edge slice of R&B that will have all the Rodney Jerkins copyists dashing back into their studios to mimic its sound. But while Forever is streets ahead of anything else in the charts, it proves the Spice Girls haven't forgotten their roots. Right Back At Ya and Weekend Love feature raps from Mel B which take us straight back to the early days of Spice, while Get Down With Me and If You Wanna Have Some Fun are going to be a must at every Christmas party this year.

The Spice Girls have always been great singers but on Forever they sound better than ever before. The lyrics are more Girl Power than ever and Right Back At Ya reminds us of all the girls have achieved, with Mel B rapping, 'We started a trend they all imitated.' Just as Wannabe sent shockwaves through the music industry when it was first released, Forever is starting another new trend. The imitators have got their work cut out.

The Spice Girls new single Holler/Let Love Lead The Way is out now and Forever is released on 6 November. As well as being available in record stores, Forever can be purchased via EMI records by digital download on the day of release.

Nice Move J!!

The bearded boyband member hasn't been in contact with THE SPICE GIRL singer since they split earlier this year after the briefest of er, romances - despite her recent admission that she's resorted to drugs(medication) to cure her depression. He confesses, "I haven't seen Melanie since I stopped seeing her two months ago. She's been touring and I've been recording, so I haven't even spoken to her."He adds, "I guess when I'm finished doing my thing and she's finished hers, I'll give her a call and see how she's going." Holler/LLLTW Review

The first Spice Girls single in way too long showcases their much anticipated new sound, and it's hard to believe any fans will be disappointed. Although 'Holler' is undoubtedly American R'n'B it doesn't sound nearly as forced and fake as has been feared. Each Spice's voice is as distinctive as ever, with all the endearing or laughable (according to preference) frailties that that entails. They haven't been over-produced into pitch perfect homogeneity and the track is all the better for it.

Sadly, 'Let Love Lead The Way' doesn't take up where '2 Become 1' or 'Goodbye' (ballads that didn't bore) left off. It sounds like something Celine Dion would have rejected on the grounds that it was "too soppy".

This is a tiresome excursion into the world of lighter waving stadium singalongs. The killer chorus is firmly in place, but with lines like "why is there sunshine after rain?" you'll be thoroughly embarrassed if you find yourself singing it in public. Thankfully, as a Double A side, this song can hide behind the sheer class of 'Holler', but it'd look awfully ugly on it's own. All in all, 3.5 stars.

Setting Sight On Abba

The Spice Girls release their first single for nearly two years tomorrow and bid to score a bigger tally of number ones than the Rolling Stones and Take That.

The group have their eyes focused on their ninth chart-topper to match Abba's record.

If Holler goes to the top, the girls will be left with just The Beatles to beat as the group with the highest score of number ones.

Only one of the band's singles has failed to get to the top - that was Stop in 1998.

The girls have each worked on solo careers in their time away from the group, with Mel C scoring two number ones and a top charting album on her own, while Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham both made it to second place.

Mel B opened her account with a number one I Want You Back in 1998, but has failed to measure up since. Her debut album Hot came in at just number 28 last week.

The new single, a double A-side with Holler backed by Let Love Lead The Way, is up against new releases from Gabrielle, Martine McCutcheon and Ricky Martin.

An album, Forever, which the music industry predicts will be their last, follows on November 6.

Chart expert Jason Legg, of HMV, said: "There's no competition out there for them really. with all the promotion they will be doing, nothing can really stand in their way. "

Posh Comfronts Kian

Victoria has finally answered back to Kian. The Spice Girl showed Girl Power when she walked up to him and told him to watch his mouth because the Spice Girls have sold far more records than Westlife has, she also backed up Steps and told Westlife that the only reason they've gotten the number 1 spots they have was because they've always released their singles when there has been no competition. Westlife representative, aswell as Kian, responded saying the Westlife album was a much better buy than the Spice stuff. Their reason? "Better vocals". What a crack! My vote is on the Spice Girls.

A New Spice Baby On The Way?

Tabloids announced today that one of the Spice Girls is pregnant! The spokespeople for the Spice Girls have denied that rumor, but tabloids expect the spokespeople to announce shortly the truth as they did with the first two pregnancies. favorites are Mel B, every since she announced her "comfortable" love life with Max,and Victoria because of her husband and her wish to raise a large family. still, tabloids are leaning towards Mel B since she has already released her solo album...Victoria and Emma they claim are too envolved recording their solo albums to have a baby. But why have they ruled out Mel C? She has obvilously released a sucesful solo album, had done a succesful tour, and has recently been dating Dan from Tomcat...she too sounds like a very good choice to me. Yet again, she and Emma have both been very clear that they want families but not at this moment in time. Only time will tell the truth of the rumor.

The Spice Girls have released the track listing for their thrid album today. The US market now knows the title, and got a glimpse of the girls on "Live" with Regis today. Victoria was on for a few minutes promoting the thrid Spice Album...they had the cover too...and they even played a small clip of the "Holler" video. Vicki looked beautiful like always.

"Forever" Track Details

There are a few things I must say first. I don't know how they could print a review where the person who worte it obviously didn't know too much about the girls..or even saw the LLLTW video. First off Mel B doesn't sing the lead vocals on LLLTW, Mel C does. Second Mel B's style is far from being like Goodbye as far as solo works goes and third off Victoria was supposed to be the main singer on Tell Me Why....that ws the information given to Much music a whil eback when they received an advanced promo from Virgin. Now on with the review:

HOLLER: A slinky slice of R'n'B, perfect for the American market - very Destiny's Child and TLC. A definite No1 single but a low-key start to the album, unlike the blistering showstopping openers on the last two CDs. 7 out of 10

TELL ME WHY: A trendy sample that paves the way for a slightly bland outing with Mel B dominating. Lots of layered vocals but ultimately empty - sounds like a bit of a filler to me. 5

LET LOVE LEAD THE WAY: Mellow ballad along the lines of 2 Become 1 and Too Much. Mel B sings. More traditional Spice territory here and the flipside of the new single Holler. 8

RIGHT BACK AT YA: This is one of my favourites but the girls seem to have turned their backs on the bubblegum pop that made them famous. Perhaps without Geri they have gone for a blacker sound. But will the Americans like it? They've got enough acts doing this stuff. This is Spice for the Millennium and much hipper. 9

GET DOWN WITH ME: Synthesised strings plod along to create a jolly slice of R'n'B but it's a bit faceless. Quite infectious and a dancefloor filler. 8

WASTING MY TIME: Baby's vocals dominate on this one - the production is impeccably slick with some Madonna-style vocal effects. 8

WEEKEND LOVE: Slushy ballad about a brief affair. Mel C croons the chorus. Mel B spoils it with a loud Salt 'n Pepa-style rap. 7

TIME GOES BY: Another slowie - possibly a single. Glitzy production with an epic feel - very Whitney and Mariah. There'll be a few first kisses to this one but I don't think it's up to the standard of Too Much. 7

IF YOU WANNA HAVE SOME FUN: This is more like it. Seventies funk feel and more traditional Spice, similar to Say You'll Be There. Production is second to none. My favourite track so far - superb intro and irresistible bass. The only truly up-tempo one so far - just what this record lacks. 9

OXYGEN: Another slow one. I was hoping for a few more like Who Do You Think You Are? but this is a quality ballad and I can see it being No1 at Christmas. 9

GOODBYE: I was very surprised that this one was on here - No1 two years ago. It rounds off a strange album. It's closest to Mel B's solo sound and might not be so accessible for their young fans but the production quality is breathtaking. 8

Hosting "TFI Friday"

The Spice Girls will be hosting the C4 show "TFI Firday" on it's season premiere Nov 10th on the last season of the prgoram. Chris Evans, the original host, has pulled out of the show as it comes to a close. Guest celebrity hosts will be taking up his role. The hosts will be celebrity who have been linked with the show on several occasions. The Spice Girls will the first of the celebrities to do their hosting job four days after the release of their third album!

The Spice Is Right

Just wanted to share this little story with all of you. Yesterday I was at school(college actually) and I was using the computer lab available to undergrads. I noticed a real Player file on the desktop and I was immediatly tempted to open it..it read "Tell_Me". When I opened it Melanie B's music started to play! Here I was thinking I was the only Spice fan in the whole architecture school...but I am not! I just thought it was funny. This little incident made me feel a lot more positive that as soon as "Holler" hits the radio stations here it is going to go up the charts quickly. By the way, you can start to request the track at the nearest radio stations cause the US advanced promo has laready been released. EIL had it for sale..incase you really felt a need to purchase it.

The Spice Girls are ready to attack Stateside! After two years, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Posh now known as Melanie B, Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham, are ready to release their new album and promote their works in the United States. Last week, Victoria flew to LA to continue work on her forthcoming solo album...it seems like they are all taking advice from Melanie C and recording in LA. Victoria dropped by and was surprised to see how many fans still remembered her despite MTV's attempt to "finish" the Spice Girls off. Virgin records has been doing its homework and have realized that there are far more Spice Girls fans out there as was expected and the fans are awaiting the release of "Forever". This in mind it is said that 500,000 copies of "Forver" and already been shipped to the US. Emma Bunton has also been promoting "Forver" in NY and has shot a few shows such as MTV's All Star, but the Spice Girls will be together on NY's radio Z100 this Thursday @ 5:30 pm! Canadian radio station Kiss92 FM will be flying down to NY on today in order to interview the four piece, the show will be aired on the morning show later this week! I can't wait!

I don't know about everyone else, but I am very excited about the release of "Forever"! Just the fact that Virgin Records has studied demographics and it seems like the Spice Girls may have a chance to get a number 1 album on this side of the pond! That would be wild! I sure hope I can get a Forever T-shirt before the release date Stateside...I'll wear it to my classes! College kids...we are crazy!

2 New Tattoos

I was hesitant about this information. I had read it earlier this week at another site, and she mentioned it without going in depth about it in her chat last week. Anyway, Spicenews can reveal, do to some help from fans, that Melanie C had told fans in a concert that she has added 2 new tattoos to her body. They are two small symbols, one on each wrist. the tattoo on the left means love, and the other tattoo means happiness.

Northern Star Vs Hot

It almost seems ridiculous to compare both album which are so obviosuly different. But music critics in England where quick to point out how Melanie C's Northern Star album was three spots ahead of Melanie B's Hot. I honestly wish they didn't compare the albums because...well, it seems like the comment will cause tension not just between MElanie B and Melanie C fans, but between the two aswell. Anyway, I'm sure the later won't be the case. Melanie B's spokesman was quick to point that Melanie C's album took a while to become so "popular" in England. BUT I have to ponit out that Northern Star did enter amongst the top ten on its first week of release...so although there is some truth in what the man says...he hasn't done his research and he shouldn't have even touched the subject. How ridiculous is it to compare both albums? Hot is a completely different musical experience than Northern Star, not to mention that "Northern Star" is a compilation of musical style where as Mel B's "Hot" isn't.

Rehearsals proved a revealing time for Mel B - her scoop-neck top top was a little too skimpy and the poor lass had to run off to change moments before recording! It's a tough job

Meanwhile, Mel C indulged in some friendly banter with the cd:uk audience during the Spice Girls' rehearsal of Let Love Lead The Way. 'Does anyone want to see my bum? Does anyone want to see Emma's?' she teased. Feisty Mel even stopped rehearsals halfway through to indulge in some technical talk with the sound team. 'Higher, higher! Kian Westlife Talks Out His Smack

Westlife have issued a challenge to the Spice Girls as both supergroups are due to release albums on 6 November.

Singer Kian Egan told worldpop Westlife are looking forward to going head to head with the Spice Girls Forever when Coast To Coast is released the same day as the Spice Girls' LP Forever. 'Definitely, we love a challenge! We're going to kick their asses!' Kian claimed.

He then added further fuel to the fire, stating that if the Spice Girls change their release date to avoid a clash with the Irish chart-toppers, they'll change theirs too!' If they change their release date we're going to follow them,' Kian told worldpop. Cos we want a challenge and if they change their release date they're obviously afraid.'

'It's going to be such fun,' he continued. 'Regardless of who gets No 1 and who gets No 2, the idea of challenging the Spice Girls is something that made us think, why not, let's have a crack at it.'

Westlife's second album, Coast To Coast, and Spice Girls' third album, Forever, are scheduled for release in the UK on Monday, 6 November.

This group has no idea what they are trying to do...the Spice Girls were the ones who gave these little boys a chance to be a pop group because before the Spice Girls there was no pop explosion! I don't doubt the girl can make it to number 1, but as they've stated the album is for the fans and it is not an attempt to re-create 96-98. But I would also like to ask all Spice Girl fans to support their idols and buy the "Forever" LP on its released date, or anytime during that week. I'm starting to collect all the spare change and seting a small "Forver" fund. LOL

Depression Hits Melanie Hard

Spice Girl Mel C is reported to be suffering from depression, triggered by digs from the media about her weight and sexuality.

Despite a successful solo career, the singer told British newspapers that she has been upset by jibes about her new fuller figure and suggestions that she is a lesbian.

She added that she has been prescribed anti-depressants to help cope with her feelings and wanted to be open about her condition.

"It's an illness and nothing to be ashamed of. I hope that I can dispel the stigma attached to this condition," she told The Mirror.

The 26-year-old singer was diagnosed with depression by doctors three months ago after the continued media interest in her body shape and love life became too much.

When she first found fame with the pop group the Spice Girls five years ago, Mel C was dubbed "Sporty Spice" because of her athletic figure.

In the past few months, however, she has been photographed on holiday in a bikini and looks to have gained a more rounded figure.

New album

Earlier this year she was also prompted to dismiss rumours about her sexuality after she was reported to have shared a room with her personal assistant Ying Yau in Barbados.

Mel C is said to have tried to laugh off the criticisms but ultimately took the attacks to heart.

Doctors are said to have also advised Mel C to take a break from her gruelling work schedule, even though the Spice Girls are about to release their first single for almost a year.

The double-sided single Holler Holler/Let Love Lead The Way, out on 23 October, will be followed in November by their third album Freedom.

All four members of the Spice Girls have been busy pursuing solo careers but Mel C - whose full name is Melanie Chisolm - has been the most productive and successful.

In August, she has had three hit singles, two of which have gone to number one. Her debut solo album Northern Star has sold just under one million copies.

She was also recently nominated for three awards by MTV Europe.

A source close to her said: "She has been feeling very down since January. She doesn't know what caused it. She says it was just like a dark cloud descending on her.

"It's not just her weight but those pictures didn't help the situation. She's finding it hard to cope with the pressures of living her life in the public eye where every move she makes is scrutinised and picked over with a fine-tooth comb.

And, despite being nominated for three MTV Awards for her solo material, the strain was obviously beginning to tell when she lambasted the playlists of Radio 1 on Chris Moyles’ show yesterday for “playing mindless pop crap”.

“The industry is all about money and not about music,” the tabloid-bred Spice Girl added. “We should be giving the kids more music, it’s all about pleasing the listeners.” Not that she minded five years ago, of course.

I'm Not Fat

Melanie C talked to University of East Anglia's student magazine about her weight gain allegations saying:

"I'm sure you'll agree I am not fat. I've put on weight because the truth of the matter is that before, I was underweight. There are kids out there who aspire to be like us and who have eating disorders or body image disorders. I'm a victim, too. To become famous, I had to be skinny or I wouldn't be accepted. And then when I got famous, I couldn't be arsed to stay skinny any more."

Quick Chart Stats Reminder; #8 Dance Track US

The Chart Stats page is updated almost every other day since certain charts are released at different days of the week. To get the global lowdown you'll have to check back midweek and every monday(usual update hours...usually 8-9 pm ET but for sure by 12 pm ET)...UK chart stats are released Sundays and are updated Sunday evening(around 5-6pm ET) and the current Billboard rundown are released at the end of the week so they'll be updated Thursday or Friday at the usual morning time aswell. Solo Spice's & Group 2001 Tour!

Speaking to Trevor Nelson in a webcast interview on Virgin's official website,http://c3.vmg.co.uk/spicegirls, Mel B revealed that the Spice Girls are hoping to go back on the road in November 2001 following a solo tour of her own and the release of Emma's and Victoria's albums.

The new Spice tour will be a little bit different to 1998's Spiceworld extravaganza with the girls performing both Spice Girls hits and their own solo material in the same show. Although Mel joked that they've got so much material to choose from, they'll probably only be able to fit in 30 seconds of each song! The Spice entourage will also be bigger than usual with Spice babies Phoenix and Brooklyn accompanying their mums.

Melanie B's first solo album Hot is released on Monday and the third Spice Girls album Forever is out on 6 November.

Hitting The Gym

MEL C hopes to shake off the press by running back to fitness.

Sporty has been making secret visits to the gym to shed some weight pictures revealed in the Star yesterday. She's been clocking up the miles on the treadmill and pounding the step machine.

The curry-and-lager-loving singer has repeatedly denied gaining weight (in order not to confuse children and make them think they should be a specific size....but the press just won't let her be).

Some friends say she's been "comfort eating" to get over the stress of her on-off romance with J from 5ive.

But Mel, 26, clearly wants to get her old Sporty look back in time for the Spice Girls' "comeback" later this month.

She had one of her secret gym workouts at Nottingham's Fitness First gym after performing in nearby Leicester.

Staff were shocked when Mel and a female pal walked in and asked to use the machines.

The star climbed aboard a running machine and later pumped weights.

Afterwards she met the gym's beautician and splashed out £150 on cosmetics.

Receptionist Louise Birkin said: "I wasn't sure it was her until the tattoos gave it away."

Rumor: Dan's Her Man!

According to some recent rumors Melanie C is dating the lead singer of Tomcat, her opening act. An insider said that Dan was surprised and cpouldn't believe her was dating a Spice Girl. According to the same insider Melanie and Dan have been inseperable since three days into the tour, Melanie had already itnroduced him to the Spice bunch. If the rumor is true I am gald she has found someone...and I wish them the best since we know how hard it must be to date when you have such a hard schedule to keep. Melanie C and Robbie Williams head the British challenge for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2000.

New Tour Dates For 2001!

The first leg of Melanie C's worldpop-sponsored solo tour ended in spectacular fashion with a guest appearance from Bryan Adams at last night's Shepherd's Bush show ... and you can watch the entire show tomorrow on worldpop when we broadcast the gig tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6pm!

Bryan Adams joined Mel for the first of two encores to perform their duet When You're Gone, Mel's first recording away from the Spice Girls. As the opening chords began, Mel joked, 'You can tell we haven't rehearsed,' but the duo proceeded to put in a faultless performance. In fact, Mel was word perfect, unlike in her rendition of Goin' Down when the audience had to fill in the lyrics she forgot!

Bryan Adams wasn't the only famous face to make an appearance. The VIP area became the focal point of the gig with Melanie's fellow Spice Emma Bunton, All Saint Natalie Appleton, Nat's boyfriend Liam Howlett from The Prodigy, and All Saints producer K-Gee all rocking out to Mel's hits. Emma and her mum were particularly enthusiastic with their dancing taking them dangerously close to the edge of the balcony near where they were seated!

The first section of Melanie C's tour may have drawn to a close but there's still her Wembley date (5 November) to look forward to. And worldpop can exclusively reveal that Mel will be back out on the road in February. You can see her at Manchester Apollo (1), Edinburgh Playhouse (2), Wolverhampton Civic Hall (4), Nottingham Royal Centre (5), Brighton Centre (7) and Plymouth Pavilions (8).

Melanie C's new single If That Were Me is released in November with all proceeds being donated to homelessness charities.

London Shepherd's Bush Empire Review

New pictures from the gig available at the pics section

It's all flashing devil horns and chubby kids in the Empire tonight. Some reprobate has no doubt been selling whistles outside to encourage a suitable cacophonous audience.

Merchandise sellers traipse around the venue selling 'The Little Book of Mel C' or some such tat, and the crowd woo-woo along to pop-dance tunes on the warm-up tape. Don't you just hate it when people are having fun? Speaking of which, Tom Cat.

Boyband-ska. What kind of genetic mutant genre is that, and who ever thought it desirable? There's a bunch of lads prancing around, rapping with a cockney accent, looking like a pop supergroup.There's one that looks like Matt Priest out of Dodgy, John Lydon, one of the Proclaimers with a quiff, and some poor chap dragged in off the street with Tomcat felt-tipped across his t-shirt. They've got guitars - and maracas - and they play them. Whatever happened to Hepburn anyway?

The sound is all Madness and 'Parklife' era Blur with lyrics about w**king. By the time they get to the final song, 'Mama Told The Band To Play', with its melodic stealing of the Boomtown Rats' 'I Don't Like Mondays', the audience are thoroughly converted. The charts soon won't know what's hit them.

So to the main event. The warm-up tape tunes into Mel C FM, playing snippets of her hits, in case we'd forgotten who it was we were here for. Several of the audience leave at this point muttering about Morcheeba being next week.

For the rest of us, the tape announces "This is Live." The curtain rises, and a stage set reminiscent of French artist Jean Dubuffet's sculpture 'Le Jardin d' Hiver', recreated complete with mushrooms and crayon is revealed in stunning glory.

Liverpudlian Melanie (Melanie!? Oh Please. It'll be Melanie Chisholm next. Such pretentiousness unseen since Debbie Harry tried to make us call her Deborah) bounds on wearing her 'I heart London' t-shirt in a transparent and ruthlessly effective crowd-pleasing ploy.

With her blonde hair she resembles a bizarre concoction of Dougal the Magic Roundabout dog, David Coverdale, a hint of Meg Ryan, and an Olympic javelin thrower. If she'd included Sydney on this tour, Britain could have won another gold medal.

Her set reveals the admirable variety of her debut solo album 'Northern Star' and shows that she can sing live too and without the usual trio of backing singers so beloved of solo artists thank you very much. Premiering new song 'Happy Without You', she shows that her songwriting ability has also come on in leaps and bounds.

Successful, rich, talented, beautiful - life's just not fair, and Mel knows it. Introducing new single, 'If That Were Me', she announces that all the royalties will be donated to homeless charities.

"Are You Ready To Rock?" Mel asks. She shimmies and shakes, and slams her head around so much that the awful spectre of Sam Fox's singing career is visibly reprised.

She closes with the fabulous Kinks-esque 'Suddenly Monday' and a singalong 'Never Be The Same Again'. The inevitable encore, 'I Turn To You', is sensational.

And that's it - 10:15 on a Saturday night and it's all over. No Bryan Adams, thankfully. No 'Anarchy in the UK', regrettably.
