"Northern Star" has now officially went triple platinum in the UK alone. Congrats Melanie! It's a great accomplishment to see the album continue to fight in the battle of the charts. Currently the album slipped from the 52nd spot to the 70th.

Despite all the slack that the Spice Girls have received throughout the last three years about their success as a "has-been" group sales indications for the last six years tend to show a different side to the story. The Girls are the top 4rth selling musical artists in Europe according the IFPI figures....that is the equivalent of 14 times platinum. That doesn't sound like something negative to me....perhaps critics should start doing the math before they start to talk the rubbish.
"Bend It Like Beckham" is a movie still in production. The movie starts Shaznay Lewis, ex- All Saints member, as a soccer player who struggles to get recognition in the stereotypical manly football world. David Beckham is a rumoured addition to the production. If he does take the role he will most likely appear as himself. He has already given the production permission to use his name in the title. Melanie C and Shaznay have contributed to the soundtrack of the movie. The release sate is set for the 19th of April with the soundtrack being released before or after that date. Well keep you posted on more news about the soundtrack.
Wannabe has been voted one of the sexiest music videos by FHM readers.

In other news Melanie C has donated a top to the www.encams.org organization which is geared to recycling clothes...similar to the Salvation Army. Many celebrities have donated items to them so they can raise some more money. I think it's swell Melanie is willing to contribute.
FHM's quote is their oppinion and doesn't reflect mine. If anything I think all the girls are still great, and I especially think Mel looks great today. If you ask me...she looks more like a real person today than a cartoon persona like in the early Spice years when none of the girls showed their other sides and interests.
"Northern Star" has moved to the 52nd spot in the UK Albums Chart. That means the '99 release album has moved up one position.
Today is Melanie C's birthday...hope she has a great time celebrating....wonder if she is still in barbados....that's where she celebrated a few years back. Melanie, may this year bring you the very best in family, friends, relationships and work.

Melanie C continues her support against smoke. Melanie C helped launch the "ashtray amnesty" which asks all people who wish to quit to please send in their ash trays for a sculpture that will be created for No Smoking Day, March 13.

The Spice Girls have been dissed for the last time, or so claim many Spice Fans. The Spice Girls' "Holler" was voted the worst video of the year, despite the fact that they were on the count down for a while. I found some footage of an old concert and added it to the top of the news page, it's from Autumn of 2000...Melanie C played to a sold out concert at London's Shepherds Bush Empire. Thanks Virtuetv for still having the great concert online...I'm looking for footage of the other webcast in America at the HOB....but HOB does not have anything about the concert on their new-look website. I'll continue to search.

Melanie C is once again dating Dan Cadan, just a few weeks after she and Jason Plato broke up.

Melanie C is featured in two DVD's that have been released in time for the Holidays. "Bryan Adams: Live At Slane Castle", DVD, features Melanie C dueting "When You're Gone". "Russell Watson" first ever DVD features Melanie C dueting "Barcelona" and singing solo "Aren't You Kinda Glad We Did?". Melanie C is also featured for a small commentary on a home fitness video by Matt Roberts. Now, when is this Northern Star going to release her very own DVD? Northern Star makes a move into the 53rd spot on the UK Albums Chart this week. The album made its way back onto the top 75 last week when it entered at the 71st spot. Hopefully, the album will makes it was back into the top 20. Either way, it's great to see the album gather up strength months after the end of the Northern Star world tour. Melanie is currently working on the second album, but it must make her happy to see Northern Star move up the charts by itself.
I've just added the recent Now Magazine article that features new pictures of Melanie C on vacation to the Magazine section. Melanie C is also on the cover of the magazine wearing a tiny black and red bikini. Melanie looks beautiful, these pictures are much better quality.

Rob Buclker, boss of London's Strongroom studio aka "studio of the stars" has been quoted saying this about darling Melanie:
"A lot fo stars come in before they have any success. We didn't have a clue who the Spice Girls were. It's fait to say that they didn't charm us. Not that they were rude, but they didn't come across as celebs. A few years later, though, Mel C came in to record some tracks from her album "Northern Star" and it was a different matter. She oozed star quality. She kindly wrote in our guestbook that the Strongroom was the home of Wannabe."

Melanie C features on workout video from trainer Matt Roberts. Melanie only shows up once on the video, letting people know how Matt has helped her get fit. She says:
"I've worked with lots of personal trainers...I've been very fit. I've been quite unfit...when I met Matt, I wanted to get back into shape again....He helped me by giving me lots of confidence, and erm, a healthy outlook towrds working-out,...and he keeps things interesting and gets good results."

I'd like to voice that the journalists that try to bring Melanie down are extremely not on my good side. They should leave her alone. It's the talent, the voice that they should concentrate on....and as proven before...all they have to do is play Northern Star the album and read reports of the sales. Mel looks healthier today than seven months ago and I am sure she will continue to live a healthy lifestyle if they would just stop trying to push her down.
This year has been a pretty interesting year for Melanie C; with the wind-up of the highly successful Northern Star Tour, the constant media backlash in the early 2001, the embrassing of the media by the end of the year, the recording of Russell Watson's tv special, the recording of Bohemian Rhapsody and Independence Day, and the begining of album 2. Ofcourse, even greater acheivements include winning the Scouser of the Year award and seeing her album, "Northern Star" make an amazing re appearance on the British Music Charts entering at number 71. We'd like to congratulate this wonderful singer and performer.
Northern Star has been a great album. Being released in late 99 the album entered the charts at number 5. The album then moved downwards only to come back in 2000 and staying in the top 20 for the full year. Melanie C reached two number one singles back to back and her album toped itself off by hitting the fourth spot on the UK album charts. In 2001, with the finl days of her tour, the album continued to sell but dropped out of the charts only to reappear as the year came to a close. Northern Star has definetely been a pleasant surprise, surpassing initial expectations, and by the looks of it, the follow up will live up to the legacy.
We wish all out daily visitors and their loved ones and Melanie C and her loved ones a great New Years Eve and New Years. 2002 is already on a good start with the release of "Independence Day" on the "Bend It Like Beckham" movie as well as the release of album 2!
