Thanks Tommy

Mel's competition is heating up, though the Justin/Nelly duet has been pushed back to a later release dates (in fear of the girls), Melanie C and X-tina are ready to battle it out in true form come Feb 24th.

Melanie is currently at the 67th spot on the UK Airplay Chart while X-tina is at the 55th spot and DJ Sammy at the 66th spot.

If you want to help Melanie C out and belong to the den den forums, please contact Dee and purchase the cd, it will only count on the charts if it's sold in the UK and not bought online even from a UK online cd store.

Capital FM Review
Thanks Robert

Capital FM has reviewed HICA and called it a much more hard-edged song than some of her previous releases. "With it's grungy pulsing guitars, teamed with Melanie's familiar powerful voice, this is much more hard-edged than some of her previous hits, but it's a tune that thumps you right between the eyes and leaves you reeling. Sounds like this Northern Star really means business this time- and we can't wait to hear the album".

For The Press Now To The Fans
Thanks SoloSpiceNews.com

Dennis has typed this up for us. It is what Melanie C said about each track played to the press at the press release last week.

Here It Comes Again:
"I wrote this with Marius de Vries, who also produced it, and Robert Howard - Dr. Robert of the Blow Monkey - who also sings on the track. It has this incessant, captivating beat. Not aggressive, but very strong. And yet it's a love song, with a lyric that's very sweet. I love the middle eight, where things go a little bit weird, a little bit I Am The Walrus. It's an absolute bugger to sing though, I might add. There's no respite. You've just got to fill your lungs and go for it."

On The Horizon:
"Written with Rick Nowels and Gregg Alexander, and produced by them, this is just a great, straight-ahead, feel good song. I'll admit that it took me a little while to get over the potential cheese factor, but now it makes me smile every time I put it on. Very emotive. Highly commercial. And we all need a bit of that from time to time, don't we?"

Reason:
"Written with and produced by a lovely Scottish man, Peter Vettese. The title track, obviously, and I fucking love it. Reason is such a positive word, one that it's difficult to take a negative connotation from. And the thing is that, however arsey it might sound, music is my reason. When I came back from touring and wasn't working, I was just a shell. I had no reason or purpose whatsoever. I had to get into the studio again and start writing. This is my reason. It's me. It's what I do. Simple as that."

Lose Myself In You:
"I Wrote this with Matt Rowe and his little mate Stefan Skarbek. Matt's one of the first people we worked with as the Spice Girls -he co-wrote Wannabe- and is a really good friend now, as well as a collaborator. It's a sweet, mid-tempo song, quite quirky, that really pulls the whole album together. Some people have said they think it has quite a Marvin Gaye-type feel. Damian Le Gassick produced it here in London, and you can hear straight away it's him. It has his trademark simple, crisp but, again, quirky sound. I really like this track."

Let's Love:
"This is me writing with Phil Thornalley and Dave Munday - we did Be The One together on the last record - and with Pat McCarthy producing. They played me this kind of Stones-ish riff, a bit too Brown Sugar to my tastes. But when they put a disco beat behind it, I got really excited. Lyrically, it's not too deep. There's no real significant meaning here. But there's some great playing on it, and just as a track it's a lot of fun."

Home:
"I wrote this with David Arnold. People kept saying to me, 'God, you're going to be working with David!' and I began to get a big freaked out. Be he was so cool, laid-back and nice that it was a joy. He works out of Air Studios, which is a five minute walk from my house, so that helped! He was very insistent that he wanted the lyric to be totally honest, without one unnecessary word left in, and what we've ended up with is something quite poignant, about the whole 'This is what's happened to me' type of thing. The track itself started out sounding almost classical, with a big orchestration. Damian Le Gassick's production has actually made it into something quite funky though."

Soul Boy:
"The only track on the album that I didn't co-write, this is the work of Paul Buchanan, of Glasgow's Blue Nile. As soon as I heard it, I knew it was the most beautiful song. Paul's interpretation on the demo was so unique though, that I wondered what I could bring to it myself. This was quite a big deal for me - the first cover version that I've recorded. 'But no,' I thought to myself. 'Don't be scared.' And I just went for it. Another Scotsman, Gary Clark, produced it, and people seem very excited by the result."

Do I:
"Me writing with Phil Thornally and Dave Munday again, and with Damien Le Gassick and Pat McCarthy producing. It's just a very sweet, very simple song, and one that will be a gift to perform acoustically, when we do radio tours and stuff like that. It reminds me a bit of Be The One, from Northern Star. A fairy-tale lyric, one that's not especially relevant to my own life. Lovely, though, and intimate. A very pretty song."

Water:
"I did this with Tore Johansson, who produced it with Pat McCarthy. Tore's best known for his work with The Cardigans and, as a Swede, is the first non native English-speaker I've written with. I thought that might be a handicap in the creative process, but it all turned out just fine. He's a big Pro Tools man, and has all these reacks and racks of tracks. We tried quite a few of them, and this was just a quirky, fun thing that everybody seemed to like."

Positively Somewhere:
"Phil Thornalley and me writing together again, this time with Colin Campsie. I loved the idea of the song itself from the start, but it took a while to get the lyrics right. I loved the positivity aspect, but again I was afraid it could get a bit cheesy. Anyway, I gave the track to Damnien Le Gassick, who did some production work on the last album, and said, 'See what you can do with this, mate.' And he's taken it to a whole different place. It's great. A fantastic, driving-down-the-road type of song. And not cheesy at all."

Wonderland:
"Written with two young guy, Martin Slattery and Scott Shields, who work in Joe Strummer's band. We met after they produced a track of mine, Independence Day, which didn't make it on Northern Star, but which we gave to the Bend It Like Beckham soundtrack. They did such a good job on that, and it was just great to work with them on this. It's the perfect end-of-the-album song, kind of trying it all together. And from the start, it had 'Production by Marius de Vries' written all over it."

Thanks Anne and Anna

Anne earlier mentioned the article from Bravo Magazine from Germany, here is the translation from the article:

"The secluded Vasquez Canyon not far from LA. Normally just foxes say goodnight* to each other, but today there is a sound of Dancefloor music in the air.

It's "Reason" the comeback of Melanie C. After derailments of the last few months, "Sporty Spice" is noticeably back in shape again, and dances in a cool leather-suit around a tree."

Times Article
Thanks JohnnoM and Dennis at Solospicenews.com

Reason is a 12 track album according to JohnnoM from dot music who was at the playback party on Wednessday.

JohnnoM said that the album had loads of potential new songs for singles, atleast six. He also said the album is much more cohesive.

JohnnoM is a journalist, and he was one of the few that were invited to hear the album before it's release.

A Virgin spokeswoman at the event was quoted by saying: "this will be the record that will crack the US market and rival the Avril Lavigne's of the world."

The spokeswoman also explained: "Although all the recording etc has been completed, the CD hasn't been pressed yet. According to a woman from Virgin I spoke to, there are six versions of the album which all the relevant record company people have. They listend to it at home, in their cars etc and decide on which one flows the best. That decision will be made in the next few days before the initial batch of CDs are produced."

Melanie C was obviously at the event, and was quoted by some tabloids. Some "mis-quoted" Miss Chisholm trying to make her sound a bit...need we say catty?

This is what "The Sun" and "The Mirror" quoted...although apparently adding a few words here or there...or removing at times:

"I wouldn't join the Spice Girls again unless I'm really skint. I'd only do a reunion if it was all five of us. I'm enjoying being a solo artist. I don't keep in touch with the others but there's no big feud. If we bumped into each other, it would be like: "All right mate?"

"I'm dead proud of it(the album). I've been working on it for two years and I'm dead chuffed with the finished result."

When asked about her recent "snub" at Geri...apparently she said Geri didn't have the qualities necessary to judge Pop Idol, Melanie was quoted explaining:

"That was taken out of context. Good luck to her! Geri's made a little talent fo a long way."

The Sun Questions
Thanks Melanie C 2k and Dracula'smate

According to some fans, Melanie C's "Here It Comes Again" is causing a huge commotion in places like England where the song is on constant rotation on music channels.

It is rumoured that by Feb 24th there will be a remix video and a remix of the song available. But this rumour has as of yet not been confirmed.

The song has been such a hit apparently that some tabloids are having a go at it's credibility. The Sun reports today that the song was originally intended to be sung by Appleton. According to the report Marius sent Nic and Nat the track and they felt it was too eclectic for them. Melanie then took the song and re-wrote the lyrics and in such took writing credit.

Now I'm not too sure if the Sun is correct. According to Paul from Melanie C 2k, Marius is known to shop around his songs to people he really likes BUT according to Appleton he sends the music but not the lyrics. Additional changes to the music are done in order to make the song work with the lyrics written by the artist.

I don't really know if the matter of whether Melanie C wrote the song are not is relavant. The point is that the song was a good choice, it's sung very well, and just the point that the song was chosen by Melanie shows a sign of maturity. Besides, I don't think Melanie C has anything to worry about, why should she lie? She wrote all of Northern Star, she's written music for Emma and for Holly Valance, she's admitted she's including a cover on the new album....so why should she lie about this one song? She's already creditable...and I don't think Virgin Records would put their reputation on the line over a song either.

I believe the Sun had nothing better to do. It's obvious that they like the song since at no moment do they diss the song, BUT they sure go low and try to question whether Melanie C did or didn't write it...but at no point do they say she didn't do that track great justice. As far as I'm concerned it's just another way the tabloid tries to make money by making up stories.

More On Recent Incident
Thanks Dee

I feel for Melanie. Some people have criticed that she over-reacted...BUT if anyone was to grab my girlfriend(in her case her boyfriend) and kick her out(in Melanie's case him) out of a club without any reason and it was at my own party I myself would get very pissed and I would have knocked a few heads. YET, I think Melanie behaved very chilled by what I can see, and her reaction of giving the finger is justified cause she knew the paparazzi and press would have fun putting this on all the covers...and it's happen.

I understand her reaction and stand by her all the way on this. More power to her for telling the club and the people who were making an even bigger deal about this what she thought about the whole situation. It is a rather f***ed up situation, I'd sue the club for doing what they did.

Now rumour has it that the reasoning to kick him out was because he looked through a womans handbag which was not Melanie's...but mistakes happen and he might have thought it was Melanie's handbag...and I know I've looked through my ex-girlfriend's bag cause I tend to throw in some personal items of my own...like chapstick.

None-the-less I'm on Thomas and Melanie's side...the club should have reacted a bit more human.

Revised Lyrics
Thanks Jamie and Shelly

Hey don't you worry
Everything's all right you know
We're gonna be just fine
If the rain crashes down over you
I will love you dry

There is nobody in this world
could ever take me away from you
I am always by your side
If you need someone to guide you dear
I'd like to try

Don't give up on something
You've never had before
[Never thought that we would together]
I promise you this
You're the one I adore

Here it comes again
Filling Soul
Never want to let go
Here it comes again
Be at one with your love
As below so above
Here it comes again

My love is flowing
Freer than a waterfall
Beyond edge of time
Surrender to the emotion
Now we can fly, we can fly
And you know there's a reason
That we are who we are[who we are]
I can not resist, You're the one I adore

Here it comes again
Filling my soul
Never want to let go
Here it comes again
Be at one with your love
As below so above
Here it comes again

Just like there's always gonna be a place
For you and me
A ship that we can sail on
Just like if one and one were three
And evertyhing was free at the end of some rainbow
Just like a needle and a gun
a suckle in the sun
or knock upon a hidden door
It is you I adore

Here it comes again
Filling my soul
Never want to let go

Here it comes again
Be at one with your love
As below so above
Feel it comming again
Filling my soul
Never want to let go
Here it comes again
Be at one with your love
As below so above
Yeah Yeahhh

Note: There are the correct lyrics. Out of respect for Melanie C and her gift to us fans, I will not post the mp3 on this site until after her webchat...although it is available at the time being at other sites. Please, if you download the track from other sources *psst* before the webchat, don't forget to support Melanie. It's a very nice sweet deal she's worked so her fans could have the download to begin with, it's a gesture not all artists do.

Support artists and buy their original work...don't just copy mp3's and not give them credit...they deserve the credit and fruits from their labor(not to mention creativity).

Melanie's fab new site is up and running...at least in a temporary fashion starting at 6 pm GMT of the 6th of January.

Due to slight complications, according to manager Nancy technical things, Melanie C will not be webchatting with fans today. For right now you can download 26 seconds of a phone rip Pebbs uploaded and Dennis "remastered"...thank you both very much.

I'll continue to update from now on daily as my vacations have come to an end. Don't forget, Jan 6th Melanie C will be webchatting at her site, Northern-Star.co.uk and I expect MelanieC.net will be forwarding people to the new revamped page at that given time.
