Mel: Firstly, I'd like to say hello and thanx to everyone who wrote to me.I've read all your letters even the bad ones. J and I read them together and had a good laugh! His favourite was the one that said'I don't know how she managed 2 pull J'- it really made him laugh so thanx for that one! I was really touched by the lovely things some people said,it's nice to know i've got fans out there.
Your letters
Mel: There were a lot of people who wrote some very nasty and cruel things about me. I think it is unnecessary to be so rude. I'm criticised for having an opinion, but it is ok for kids to criticise me when I am only being honest about my feelings. Some of the reactions were so extreme it was unbelievable. People wrote about my body, how I dress and how bad my hair is, criticising me personally. Why be so nasty? Sometimes I think people forget that I am a real person and I do have feelings. So what if I am successful, have a bit of money and now a really gorgeous boyfriend.I am very lucky but I have days when I just feel like crying. I am still human.
The Steps Comment
Mel: The thing is I don't say horrible things I say honest things. I said that Steps do not tour as a live act, which is a fact. I am not criticising them, I think they are great and fantastic entertainment but I am very different to them. When I said I wouldn't know Scooch if they slapped me in the face it is because i do not know what they look like, sorry.(Giggling) Look at me going off on one. I'm not a mean person. I'm not like J who walks around going 'they're bleeping bleep they are'. I am just being me.

Mel: J hates people saying nasty things about me. If he heard someone being nasty he would probaly hit them. He said that if Westlife had said the nasty things in the paper he would have given them a kicking.(laughing)They didn't though, it was complete rubbish.(Whispering) I hope he can't hear me saying all this, he's in the next room, but I am so happy, he's my hero.
