MTV Latino Chat- November 1999

Definetly, at this moment, Mel C or Sporty Spice, as most of you know her, is a shining star!

Last november she launched, along with the rest of the bandmates, the Spice Girls latest album entitled "Forever"....a title that could soon become very ironic concidering the resent rumours that Sporty Spice had left or was kicked out of the Spice Girls. So the bigger question is will there be Spice Girls forever? Only time will tell.

The Spice Girls are one of the greatest pop groups of the last few years and Mel C has always been considered the most talented of the bunch. While remaining part of the group, Melanie C recorded a duet with Bryan Adams which received great response while the remaining three Spice Girls concentrated on their personal lives. Two of the girls became mothers, Melanie C launched her first solo album entitled "Northern Star".

For recroding purpouses Melanie moved to the magical city of Los Angeles, California. There she surrounded herself with good friends which helped her in the creation of the album which lived in her heart.

She set aside "Sporty Spice", changed her look a bit...and as many have noticed even gained a few pounds. Often times a sign that one is at ease with themselves, if you wish to look at it from a positive side.

She began to work with Rick Rubin, the man known for his production work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys(I believe he also worked at one time with the Spice Girls), Marius De Vries, Rick Nowels and William Orbit also jumped on board. The latter three are known best for their collaborations with Madonna. She added a little further spice with the help of two of Beck's bandmates. Even her best friend Bryan Adams lended Melanie a hand. Rhett Lawrence, who has written songs for Mariah Carey and Monica, also joined the bunch co writting "Never Be The Same Again", the song that includes a rap by Lisa Left Eye Lopes from TLC.

The album has been very well received, and the Northern Star continues to shine. This is Melanie C's first solo album that proves that she has what it takes to outlive the teen-popper phase. Lets just hope that she is not just another shooting star that with appears just as quickly as it fades.

Estuardo Herrera from Mexico asks: Where will you place your next tattoo?

Melanie C: That is a very personal question. I think I will have my next tattoo on my arm probably if I can find any space.

Valention from Chile asks: Why the golden tooth?

Melanie C: I just the tooth cause I liked the way they look. I just got enough money to get me one so I got one.

Claudia Pozo from La Paz, Bolivia asks: Do you see your future with the Spice Girls or alone?

Melanie C: Em, I want to see my future continue in the way it is going right now. I love working with the Spice Girls and also I am really enjoying having solo success. Hopefully I'll continue being happy.

Javier Valencia from Venezuela asks: Is it true you have plans to work with Bon Jovi?

Melanie C: Em, rumours are going around about working with Bon Jovi but unfortunately nothing came out of that. I don't know what happened there. I'd like to work with him. I really like Jon Bon Jovi's music. I've always been a big fan. Juan from Buenos Aires, Argentina asks: I'm just curious. Did you all lip-synch at the MTV European Music Awards? If yes why?

Melanie C: Yes, just like many of the artists. Basically because we didn't have the time to rehearse. It was an easy way out that way we could have fun and party instead.
